During the more than 30 years I have worked as a medical doctor in the field of cardiac rehabilitation and sports medicine, it has been scientifically validated that walking is one of the most effective and beneficial exercises for both cardiac rehabilitation and prevention. With appropriate guidelines, it is both safe and effective in improving aerobic endurance capacity and hence cardiac function. In our clinical experience we have documented, on average, a more than 25% improvement in heart functional capacity in patients who walked as prescribed.
Our patients attend the clinic once per week for supervised, monitored exercise and are expected to exercise at their home or in the community six days per week. The Places to Play indoor track is a tremendous asset to the health and wellbeing of the citizens of our region.
